Allow me to introduce myself. My Name is Capt. Mike Willsey, Lic. # 2779071. I am 55 years young and have been an avid outdoorsman most my life. I was raised a military brat in several cities across America until my fathers retirement on June 1, 1967 and we returned to Michigan to Grand Traverse county to settle in where the family had homesteaded in 1865. I have lived here since 1967 and have enjoyed fishing and hunting the area since. I have spent the last 30 years working in manufacturing technology and customer service in Northern Michigan electing to stay near my favorite fishing holes and woodlands instead of higher paying positions else where. I think it was the right choice! I started my fishing career like most people, in the ponds and streams of northern Seattle in search of trout, pan fish and bass with an ole cane pole in the beginning, graduating to spin equipment and eventually to fly fishing. I was offered a chance to go to the Skagit River one day with a friend of my father’s. We had a row boat and some funny looking quarter sized balls wrapped in what looked like one of mom’s stocking knee highs. The balls were filled with salmon eggs or roe, attached to a hook and leader and a weight placed in line about 2-3’ above the hook. We slipped the boat into the water and found what turned out to be a honey hole for …..Steelhead!! My first one at age 11 and the curse was in full force. I love to wade or float the Betsie River and admire the beauty that He gave us. Whether fish are caught or not, it just seems a better pastime than watching TV. For several years I have operated a guide service in hopes of growing into charter and inland lake guiding also. This past January 2007 I began the process of doing that witch required by law to operate a vessel for hire as a charter boat on US Coast Guard Regulated waterways. A long story shortened dramatically, I am licensed as a Charter Captain and have three boats in which to use. A 24’ Great Lakes charter, a 20’ inland/near shore boat and a 16’ Hyde drifter. Each type of fishing is offered by our company to give you the best of all possibilities. Fly fishing the upper Manistee or below Tippy Dam. Walk in trips for browns and rainbows on the Boardman or the Betsie. Lake Michigan charter fishing or bass and pike fishing on any one of the beautiful inland lakes of Northern Lower Michigan.
